Fraud
Alerts Issued
The OPP is warning citizens to beware of letter and e-mail
scams. Police are advising the public to be cautious
of any type of communication requesting personal information
be provided or any amount of money being required to be sent
in order to receive more money.
The OPP also issued an alert about a new e-mail scam that
promises a tax refund should the recipient fill out and
return what looks like a government form from the Department
of Finance Canada.
It suggests a calculation has made the individual eligible
for a tax refund of $112.80. Police say filing out a
tax refund request will compromise the individual's credit
card and social security information. |
