Licencing of Transient Traders

By-law No. 60-98 governs the activities of transient traders who are engaged in business activity within the Town of Renfrew.

A transient trader is defined as "any person who offers goods, wares, services, or merchandise for sale in any manner in the Town of Renfrew other than on a permanent basis".  Individuals wishing to engage in the transient sale of goods within the municipality must obtain a transient traders licence from the Clerk's Department prior to engaging in any business activity.

There are two classes of transient traders licence:

  • Regular Transient Traders Licence

  • Special Events Licence

Regular Transient Traders Licences are available to individuals engaging in business activity in the municipality on a stand-alone basis while Special Events Licences must be obtained by organizations sponsoring events within the municipality where one or more transient traders are engaged in business activity (ValleyFest for example).  The prescribed fee for a Regular Transient Traders Licence is $150 per annum while Special Events Licences cost $350 per annum.

Application forms and Licences are available during regular business hours at the Clerk's Office, 127 Raglan Street South, Renfrew, Ontario, K7V 1P8.
