Renfrew's Places of
Worship open their doors, welcome and invite you to attend their religious
services.
Catholic,
Protestant and Non-Denominational Places of Worship have historically made
up a strong component of our community and continue to play an important
role in many lives.
The first church
built in Renfrew was the Methodist Episcopal church in 1840, followed by
the Presbyterian church in 1847, the first Roman Catholic church St.
Francis Xavier in 1853, and the Anglican church in 1889, giving Renfrew
some of its most beautiful architectural structures.
Walk through any
of the area's churches and unlock the history of the town. For example,
visit St. Paul's Anglican church and see the evidence of the fire which
destroyed the church in 1900. Rebuilt shortly afterwards, it is one of the
only churches left in town with a wooden interior.
Today, Renfrew
has over twelve places of worship, many of which are still the original
churches. Free Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Anglican,
United, Lutheran, Brethren, Salvation Army, Pentecostal, Christian Reform,
Jehovah's Witness and the Shiloh Retreat Centre all contribute to making
Renfrew a community with strong values.
See
BUSINESS DIRECTORY for list of local churches.
