The strength
and vitality of every community hinges entirely upon its ability to
develop economically by attracting new business and residents. New
business increases the tax base and creates jobs. New residents
bring needed payroll into the community and help support local commerce.
Surrounded by
the four Townships of Admaston, Bagot, Blythfield and Brougham, and Horton
and McNab, Renfrew is ideally located in the south eastern portion of
Renfrew County, only 40 minutes from the hi-tech centre of greater Ottawa.
The strategic presence of the Trans Canada, Highway #17 truck route
between Montreal, Ottawa, Pembroke, North Bay and points east and west
beyond was an important factor in the decision made by Renfrew industry to
locate here. A further direct route southwest leads to Toronto, Fort
Erie and Windsor while easy access to Algonquin Park and cottage country
has its beginning right in town.
A further
expansion of Highway 417 to Arnprior by 2002 and to Renfrew itself by 2004
will be of great benefit to business and residents alike since this new
four-lane highway will put Renfrew less than 40 minutes from the heart of
Ottawa.
Renfrew is
considered to be the commercial hub for the area, not only drawing
residents from the surrounding townships, but also from Quebec towns and
villages just 20 minutes away by bridge across the Ottawa River.
Over 30,000 people live within easy traveling distance to Renfrew and
most do business in town at one time or another. Our fully serviced
Hospital, full medical and dental service, seniors' residences, four
financial institutions, two major grocery stores, three discount chain
stores, building supply and hardware centres and a myriad of smaller
commercial enterprises all serve this large population base.
The Renfrew
Industrial Commission has been the active participant in developing
Renfrew for over 40 years and continues to actively fill their mandate to
attract new business and new people.
